My Favorite Person

 His Name was Narendra Gunarathne.He is an External Lecturer at the University of the Visual & Perfoming Arts by profession.He is a very talented Tabla Player who has gained fame and popularatiy not only in Sri Lanka but also in India.I met him in 2019 at the Walisinghe Harichchandra College Anuradhapura at the Concert 'RAG CHALAN'.The sound of thabla playing in his hands that day left an indelible mark on my heart.Not only that,but his mastery of the tabla at that time made my hope and determination to go to the University Of the Visual & Perfoming Arts One day or another even more compelling.In Addition,he has met me at Provincial Music Competitions and has been friendly with me.

Then I found his account in the Face Book.That gave me the opportunity to communicate with him.He was a humble teacher who could tell me very clearly whenever I asked him a question about the tabla.Later,When I went to study him,I learned that he was born on June 3,1985 and that his father was a Music Teacher and his mother a dance teacher.He was educated at Mahanama College,Colombo.He learned the tabla from the Philosopher Wijerathne Ranathunga at the age of 12 and then went to India,Graduated with a BPA & MPA from the Bhathkande University of Music and is Currently a Prolific tabla player in the Sri Lankan Music Industry.

Now my only hope is to one day soon meet our favorite person in my heart,our Narendra Gunarathne teacher,and learn the art of playing the tabla from him.I sincerely wish you Mr.Narendra,a long life to make a great contribution to the advance men of the Sri Lankan tabla playing art by making disciples for a long time.❤️🙏
